Being successful in the construction industry depends on quite a few things – the quality of your workmanship, reliable employees, and an effective marketing strategy. Marketing can’t be a low priority in an industry like construction that is over-saturated with competition. Finding the strengths from within your company and team and highlighting them in your marketing plan is key to establishing a solid reputation and encouraging new and repeat business. Here are our top marketing ideas to help gather new business and retain current clients:

Industry Associations

Networking is a bullet proof way to market your business because networking typically leads to referrals and leads.  Joining industry associations and your local Chamber of Commerce is a great way to meet new people.

Social Media

With more and more people turning to the Internet for information on companies, establishing a social media presence is a must for a construction business. A strong presence on social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube, etc.)  will lead to a higher SEO ranking.  Social media allow the business to assemble a variety of customers in one easy-to-access place where potential customers can go to read testimonials from real people.  Post project progress pictures; social media can be used as a sort of portfolio to showcase your finest work.

Promotional Products

Branding your company through the use of promotional products is necessary whether it be a company polo or pen for example. The types of promotional products you use depends on the context. For example, promotional products that you use for a trade show are not the same products you should mail out. Promotional products increase brand awareness and really get your name out there. They can be great client gifts as well.

Email Marketing

Part of a successful marketing strategy includes sending email blasts to your clients and prospects alike. It can be as simple as a monthly newsletter for example. You can also segment your contact database and send different group tailored messages. You can buy a list of contact or grow your list organically. One way to grow your email list is to blog and have companies sign-up to receive your blogs or newsletter for example.

Blogging

Blogging plays an intricate part in the marketing process. Blogging allows your company to brand itself as a thought-leader and subject matter expert. It is a way to give back to the people that support you. You’re providing free information and when the time is right, your company will be rewarded for providing that information because prospects will realize that your company is competent and is staying current.

Website

Especially in this age, it is a must to have a mobile-friendly or responsive website for prospects and clients to peruse. Make sure that your website is aesthetically pleasing and contains all of the information needed for people to understand your companies offerings, history, etc. and how to contact your company when there is interest. Make sure your website is designed with conversions in mind as well which will ensure website visitors are carrying out the desired action.

Look for Unique Advertising Opportunities

Thinking outside of the box when it comes to marketing and advertising your construction company is a great way to tap into a new market of customers (one your competitors might not be). Here are a few simple ideas to get you started.

  • Sponsor a little league baseball team. It’s not only a great way to market your business but you’re also able to show that you care about your local community.
  • Create simple instructional videos that inform people how to do small construction tasks. While they may decide to “DIY” instead of hiring you for this one task, they will most certainly trust you and look to you for future projects.
  • Invest in unique promotional materials to pass out at industry events.
